The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would next Monday come up with a new date for the recall process of the embattled Senator Dino Melaye.

The senator representing Kogi West senatorial district had approached a High Court in Abuja to quash the recall process through an interlocutory order.

However, INEC had approached an appellate court to upturn the order of the lower court. Judgment in the suit was delivered tuesday.

In a statement issued in Abuja tuesday, INEC National Commissioner & Member Information and Voter Education Committee, Mallam Muhammed Haruna said: “It will be recalled that in obedience to an interlocutory order of the Federal High Court, Abuja given on July 6, 2017 the lNEC stayed all actions relating to the petition to recall Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district.

“All legal hurdles have now been cleared and the recall process can now proceed as envisaged by the constitution, the Electoral Act and the extant lNEC guidelines and regulations.

“Accordingly and in compliance with the orders of the court, the commission will release a revised timetable and schedule of activities on September 18, 2017.”
