Following increasing spate of insecurity in the country, military intelligence under the Nigerian Army thursday revealed that insecurity has continued to hamper army formations and personnel training across the armed forces.

The Director of Military Intelligence (Army), Major General Abubakar Tarfa, stated this yesterday as a special guest of honour during the Guards Brigade Third Quarter Inter-unit Cross country Competition 2017, held at Mambila Barracks, Abuja

He added that the demand for increasing security presence across the country had negatively affected the Nigerian Army formations, thereby halting army’s goal for effective and efficient military engagement.

Tarfa stated: “With careful planning, innovation and commitment, quality training of personnel by formations could still be achieved.

He said: “Training was an important aspect of every Army, it was also the bedrock of every successful military campaign.

“An event of this nature is intended to enhance the combat survival and readiness of an individual soldier which is undoubtedly dependable on his or her level of training and fitness.

“It would also build the combat efficiency of the participating units as well as improving the combat proficiency of Guards Brigade,” he stressed.

Major General Tarfa commended the Commander Guards Brigade, Major General Musa Yusuf for coming up with the competition.

Speaking, the Commander, Guards Brigade, Major General Musa Yusuf, whose unit has increased security surveillance in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, including Nasarawa, Kogi and Niger States, informed journalists that “the essence of soldiers stationed in most parts of the FCT, was to ensure maximum security to residence.

Yusuf maintained: “Contrary to some reports, soldiers on night patrol in the FCT and environs had conducted themselves in line with required practice.

“I have had course to dismantle some check points manned by my men on account of complaints from some residents, only for them to in turn, appealed for restoration following resultant negative effects on them.”
Yusuf tasked Abuja residents to continue to “cooperate with soldiers, both on night patrol and at check points so that the desired security could be achieved.”
