Renowned essayist and don, Professor Gordini G. Darah, will be the keynote speaker at the 2017 Annual Lecture of Urhobo Foundation, with the theme, “The Urhobo Nation and the Restructuring of Nigeria.” The lecture holds on Thursday, July 27, at the Radisson Blu Anchorage, Victoria Island, Lagos. A statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the conference planning committee, Olorogun Ese Okobiah and Mr. Benson Uwheru, respectively, said the lecture was “aimed at providing an intellectual platform for meaningful and practical engagements with respect to the current national debate on restructuring and the state of the Urhobo nation.”

Darah, a former chairman of the Editorial Board of The Guardian newspapers, was a delegate to the 2005 and 2014 National Political Conferences in Abuja. He is expected to bring his rich experiences in scholarship and activism to bear in addressing the position of the Urhobo, one of the ethnic groups in the oil-rich Niger Delta, on the growing agitation for the restructuring of the country.

Urhobo Foundation is an intellectual forum dedicated to the generation of economic and socio-cultural ideas for development of the human and environmental assets in Urhobo Land.
