The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has said his government has reduced the mortality rate of mothers and infants in the state through investment in the health sector.
Obiano stated this while speaking during an event marking the closure of the First Round Maternal, New Born and Child Health Week (MNCHW) at Community Secondary School, Umuoba Anam, Anambra East Local Government Area weekend.
The five-day programme, which ended last Frida,y witnessed health care delivery and administration of vitamin A supplement and de-worming tablets to children within six to 59 months, and routine antigens to children within 0 to 11 months.
Other services offered during the exercise included free medical attention to pregnant women and birth registration among others.
Obiano stated that his administration would continue to increase its strength of support and investment in the health sector by providing various facilities that would improve its standard of operation, adding that through such investments, Anambra has today registered very low maternal and infant mortality, insisting that the state would continue to improve as time goes by.
