MY STORY: Olola: I Try to Be Free with My Music

Oluwanifemi Feola Famuyibo, popularly known as Olola, is a blend of good music, positive energy and mastery of afro pop. Currently signed to Grind Records, he shares his ideas with Tosin Clegg

How did you come about ‘Feola’?

It came from my real name Feola. When I was born my dad was a very big fan of Fela so he named me Feola after the late Fela. At first my stage name was Fela but I was getting too much comparison to Fela which I didn’t like at that stage so I changed it to Feola.

What kind of music do you play?

I do afro pop. I have a wide range of musical influences, as I listen to a lot of artistes. My old school influences are Tupac, Fela, Michael Jackson and Bob Marley, based on the kind of people they were. My new school influences are Wizkid, Wande Coal, Kiss Daniel and Kendrick Lamar.

What are the messages in your music?

It depends actually on my concentration. My first song, Bless Me, done two years ago, was about me talking to God. At times I like to put myself in people’s situation like mine and I don’t box music so I try to be free with my music. I do every kind of music basically and that depends on my mood.

What should we expect from you in a few weeks?

I dropping a song, ‘Adore You’ and is being produced by TY Mix. It would be coming out very soon and also I have a lot of music on ground. For now I will just keep dropping singles till the fans request for an album.
