Anambra 2017: Nwobodo Panel Begins Screening of APC Aspirants

Former Governor of the old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo and the former Abia State Governor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, led other members of the panel Wednesday night to interview aspirants vying for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 8 governorship election.

Speaking while welcoming the 14 aspirants to his residence in Abuja, Nwobodo commended them for exhibiting exemplary conduct so far.

He urged them to continue with their ran our-free approach to the November poll, adding that there can only be one governor among them.

Exchanging pleasantries with the aspirant. Before the commencement of the meeting, Kalu had stolen the show when he jokingly challenged the aspirants to lock themselves inside a room for some minutes and produce one aspirant as the flagbearer for the party to simplify the work of the committee.

“We will appreciate very well if only all of you could lock yourselves inside the room, deliberate and resolve to present one of you as the flag bearer,” he quipped, throwing everybody in the room into hilarious mood.

Continuing, he added: “Having passed this road in the past, I urge you to try very hard to woo the delegates to your side. I want to assure you that the committee will do everything possible to treat every aspirant fairly and equally,” he said.

Speaking to journalists before appearing before the committee for the meeting that lasted into the early hours of yesterday, the aspirants sounded it clear that they will not step down for anybody regardless of the pressure and or persuasions.

While, Dr. Chike Obidigbo argued that the zoning arrangement of the party favours, the National Auditor of the APC, Dr. George Moghalu, said he was not willing to sacrifice anything.
But at the end, all the aspirants agreed to accept the outcome of the party primary and support whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer.
