Onu Unveils ‎Solar-powered e-Voting Machine Invented by NASENI

As part of effort‎s to remedy the challenges associated with the country’s electoral system, which include rigging and ballot box snatching, among others, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has unveiled a solar-powered electronic voting machine invented by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).

‎He said with the e-voting machine, there would be a significant reduction in election litigation in the country, as election results would reflect the true wishes of the people.

Unveiling the machine at NASENI headquarters on Tuesday in Abuja, the minister stressed that permanent voter cards could now be issued within five minutes with the help of the machine.

Onu stated that the present administration was not only committed to making sure that the economy is revived but also that the economy grows, adding that NASENI is playing an important role in making sure that the country is able to produce many of the equipment and machine ‎currently being imported.

According to him, “My visit today is very special and unique. I recall in January that the ministry, NASENI was able to show Nigerians that we are gradually coming of age that many of the economic  problems that we have in our country that we have the capacity ‎to solve these problems.”
