Obiano Canvasses Workable Plan for Education Sector in Nigeria

By David-Chyddy Eleke in Awka
Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano on Tuesday charged stakeholders in the education sector to provide a workable plan that will take the sector to greater heights and ensure sustainable achievements.
Obiano, who spoke through his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, at the 2016 Joint Consultative Committee meeting on education held in Awka regretted that despite the recommendations of the United Nations for countries to allocate at least 26 per cent of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to education, funding of education in the country is still very poor.
He called for a total overhaul of the nation’s education system, noting that education remains the bedrock of sustainable development.
The meeting, which is still taking place at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka with the theme: “Inclusive Education: Creating Quality Earning Opportunities For All: Implications for Concurrency in Education in Nigeria”, has in attendance delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
