Plateau APC Resolves Major Leadership Crisis

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has doused tension over alleged crisis of confidence tearing apart leadership of the party, in which the state Chairman, Mr. Latep Dabang and his executive members rose up against each other.

About 19 party officials had allegedly accused embattled Dabang of sundry offences, including insincerity in appointments, personalisation of the party, unaccountability in spending  party funds, and hijacking all contributions made to the party.

Their grievances were contained in a letter addressed to the state governor, Mr. Simon Lalong, and signed by the Assistant Secretary, Mr. Binkur .L Binkur; Zonal Chairman,(Southern Zone), Mr. Paul Attsar, and 17 others out of the 23 executive  members of the party in the state.

The heat generated by the crisis had caused Lalong to immediately call for an emergency meeting of the party hierarchy with critical stakeholders to prevent degeneration.

However, THISDAY gathered yesterday that after an executive session at the state secretariat in Jos, the contention is gradually being resolved, with Dabang winning back the confidence of the aggrieved EXCO members.

A source at the session, presided over by the state Chairman, said the aggrieved persons were prevailed upon to sheathe their swords and learn to resolve their differences internally.

They were allegedly advised to eschew wrangling in the interest of the state party and for the common good of state.
The aggrieved officials were said to have consented after the meeting to continue to work with the Chairman.

The party’s state Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Musa Sati, who confirmed the development in a statement yesterday, added that apart from resolving all issues relating to the matter, “the party equally passed a vote of confidence” on the embattled chairman.

Sati said: “As a democratic party, APC did not dismiss the allegations with a wave of the hand but swung into action by convening a series of meetings where it was thoroughly x-rayed. We want to make it clear that no crisis exists in the party. The EXCO and members stand by the party chairman, especially for his exemplary leadership and dedication to duty.”
