FRSC Calls for Caution amongst Motorists During Festive Period

Ahead of the Christmas celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ikeja RS 2.18 has called on motorists to apply caution in their use of the vehicles especially by ensuring the safety of their tyres.

Speaking at a public enlightenment campaign at Archbishop Memorial Anglican Church (AVMCC) in Lagos recently, the Ikeja Unit Commander, Commander Wale Odekunle, urged drivers to consult the vehicle manufacturer’s specification sticker, adding that there is need for drivers to carry out routine inspection of their tyres.

He stated that the event was part of the festive period enlightenment campaign efforts being organised by the corps, while calling on motorists to avoid over speeding and consider the lives of others on the road, by ensuring that they don’t buy fairly used tyres.

“They should always look at the manufacturing date of their tyres because a tyre expires after four years. We have been going to churches, mosques and motor parks to sensitise them. They are more conscious now. We are also trying to check their blood and sugar levels. We are hoping that with this sensitisation, accidents will reduce to the barest minimum.”

In his remarks, the Unit Coordinator, Unit 34 AVMCC Ikeja, Sm’Bola Olupitan, said the enlightenment would provide the public on the type of tyres to use and how to deflate their tyres, adding that over inflation of tyres leads to tyres damage, while under-inflation has an effect on the tyres.

Olupitan remarked that there have been positive responses from the parishioners, stating that after the enlightenment there were questions from the parishioners as regards what should be done to maintain their tyres.
