No fewer than 30 men have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) in the recent past.
The leader of the Fulani community in Kogi State, Alhaji Dauda Abdullahi, made the disclosure yesterday at the inauguration of the “System and Structure Strengthening Approach Against Radicalisation to Violent Extremism Project in the state, organised by Actionaid, in partnership with Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development (PIBCID).
According to him, the entire group including the herdsmen were in full support of move to rid the state of trouble makers and other undesirable elements.
He mentioned that the Fulani group has adopted a holistic approach to the issue of insecurity in the state, including sensitisation and enlightenment programmes, and through avowal by the Holy Koran, not to engage in violence.
Assisted by an interpreter, he said their efforts was already yielding fruit, adding that more would be done to discourage the youth from participating in condemnable acts.
He stressed that the leadership of the Fulani’s in the state would continue to give adequate support to the state government so that the issue of kidnapping and other criminal activities were eliminated from the state.
He also disclosed further that any Fulani person found wanting will be handed over to security agents in the state.
Also speaking, the Manager, Human Security and Emergencies Action Aid, Mr. Gbenro Olajuyigbe, said their activities were geared towards drawing potential violence actors and perpetrators away from possible incentives to radicalisation and violence.
