Emmanuel Mourns Ex-IGP Late Etim Inyang

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has commiserated with the family of the late Etim Okon Inyang a former Inspector General of Police (IGP) who passed on Monday, September 26, 2016.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, Emmanuel said: “On behalf of the government and the good people of Akwa Ibom State, we commiserate with the family of our illustrious son and compatriot, late Etim Okon Inyang, (GCON) a retired Inspector General of Police whose sad passing occurred on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Reddington Hospital, Lagos, aged 85.

The late Inyang’s life illustrates the true Akwa Ibom spirit of hardwork, industry and honesty – a sprit that stares challenges in the eye and instead of buckling under the weight, would rather rise to such challenges and let the true character manifests.

Having joined the Police Force on October 1st, 1949 as a recruit, he rose through the ranks and displayed an uncanny and exceptional dedication to professional ethics which helped him rise to the exalted position of the nation’s Inspector General of Police in 1984, which he held meritoriously until his retirement in October 1986.

His death is indeed a sad loss to the Nigerian law enforcement community in particular and the nation in general and we urge the family to take solace in the fact that he came; he served and in the process had left indelible footprints in the sand of time. May his soul rest in peace”.
