‘Navy Did Not Lose Any Officer in Delta’

Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS Delta) Warri yesterday said it did not lose any of its officers in any form of accident penultimate week.

The Base Information Officer, Lieutenant Lamu gave the clarification in an interview with THISDAY in reaction to a Sunday publication in which it was reported that the Navy lost an officer in an accident. THISDAY had exclusively reported that a Naval Officer attached to the NNS Delta Warri lost his life penultimate Thursday night at the Navy base.

But the Base Information Officer clarified that no such incident occurred in the Base and took THISDAY on tour of the jetty where it was observed that there was no dangling rail that could have led to the death of any personnel. “We are always careful with the way we carry out our assignment here. The welfare and safety of our officers are paramount and so no such incident occurred here. We take extreme precaution in the execution of our duty”, he assured.

Further investigations by THISDAY however revealed that the incident did not involve any officer of the Nigerian Navy, but that of a Merchant Navy personnel in Warri.
