Remo Traditional Council Formally Informs Ogun Govt of Demise of Akarigbo

The Remo Traditional Council wednesday formally informed the Ogun State Government about the demise of the Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, who was also the Chairman of the state Council of Obas.

Elepe of Epe, Oba Adewale Osiberu, who spoke on behalf of the council, told the state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, that Oba Sonariwo joined his ancestors on July 23 in a United Kingdom hospital at the age of 80.

The governor, in his response, said the news was a rude shock to the government and described the demise of the first class monarch as a great loss to Remoland in particular and the state in general.
He promised that his government would support the people of Remoland and the Council in all burial activities towards giving the Akarigbo a befitting burial.

Oba Sonariwo was born on July 28, 1936, and ascended the throne on July 14, 1990.
Also present were the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Dayo Adeneye, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko.
