The federal government has congratulated the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on the recent re-certification of its aeronautical and meteorological services for conformance to the International Standard Organisation (ISO), standard for Quality Management System (QMS).
This was contained in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Saibu Zakari, who quoted President Muhammadu Buhari, as commending NiMet’s management and workforce for their zeal and dedication in keeping the Nigeria skies safe.
The statement said: “The ISO 9001 certification which was first issued to NiMet by the International Standards organization in 2013 is centered on efficient and effective service delivery. So far only two countries in West Africa can boast of the ISO 9001 certification – Nigeria and Gambia.
“As part of requirement for re-certification, NiMet organises periodic stakeholders meeting, a forum where industry experts, customers and airline owners critique and make recommendations on how the Agency can better serve its customers and deliver on its mandate of advising government on all aspects of meteorology (climate/weather) as well as providing services to various sectors of the national economy.”
It added that the quality management system (QMS) is a formalised system that documents processes, procedures and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives.
“QMS helps coordinate and direct the activities of organisations in order to meet customers’ expectations and regulatory requirements with a view to improving its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous basis.” the statement added.
