Conference of Nigerian Political Parties and Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) based in Ekiti State on Friday protested against Governor Ayodele Fayose for his alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms fund.
The protest, according to the coalition, was sequel to the startling revelations given by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that the former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, allegedly collected a sum of N4.7 billion to finance Fayose’s governorship election held on June 21, 2014.
The protesters massed at the popular Fajuyi Park and marched through Ojumose Square to Okeyinmi Junction where they addressed a mammoth crowd about the state of affairs in the state.
The protesters, who carried placards of various inscriptions, urged Fayose to explain his connection with the revelation of the EFCC concerning some of the accounts traced to him in Zenith Bank and other banks containing money allegedly sourced from the office of the former National; Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
The protest was undertaken under a non-governmental organization, Be The Change Organization (BCO)
Addressing the crowd, the Executive Director of BCO, Mrs. Omotunde Fajuyi, said Ekiti people are embarrassed by the latest revelation of Fayose’s link with N4.7 billion arms cash adding that all Nigerians must support any move to recover the peoples commonwealth from looters.
