Casket-bearing OAU Workers Celebrate Exit of VC with Procession

Non-Academic Staff Union and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University branches on Thursday organised a protest to mark the exit of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole.

THISDAY gathered that Omole is expected to complete his five-year single term this Friday. ‎

The casket-carrying protesters paraded the university campus with the casket, chorusing anti-oppression songs.

The protesting workers, who dressed in white attires, noted that the choice of white attire was to show that they were not mourning but rejoicing over the exit of Omole.‎

Chairman of SSANU-OAU, Comrade Ademola Oketunde, appealed to President Muhammed Buhari to intervene for peace to reign.

‎‎He alleged equally that injustice in the university needed to be investigated by the Federal Government.

Oketunde noted, “We are full of joy that after being in bondage over the past five-year, Omole is going. We have to celebrate his exit and pray not to have a VC like him again. ‎
