Bayelsa‎ Indigenes Besiege N’ Assembly over Exclusion from Ambassadorial List

The ambassadorial list sent to the National Assembly last week by President Muhammadu Buhari may not have gone down well with Bayelsans,‎ as indigenes of the State defied rain on Tuesday to protest against the exclusion of the State from the list, describing it as injustice and marginalisation.

The group under the aegis of Concerned Bayelsa State indigenes‎ described the marginalisation against a State that contributes so much to the wealth and economy of the country as injustice.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Coordinator of the group and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, Prince Bodi Arerebo,‎ said it was painful that the State was excluded in the current list of ambassadorial nominees despite having qualified officers to fill up the quota.

The group in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki‎ said: “we concerned indegenes of Bayelsa State write to formally draw the attention of the Senate President on the current injustice perpetrated against the State in the scheme of things in this country by the administration of President Muhammad Buhari. The clear cases of marginalisation against the state that contribute to the wealth and the economy of this nation should not be allowed.

“The administration ‎of President Muhammadu Buhari appointed federal Permanent Secretaries from each of the States in the federation but Bayelsa was excluded in that exercise. The reason for this omission was not known. This is very painful injustice to the people.

“Bayelsa‎ State is excluded in the current list of ambassadorial nominees from the presidency to Senate  for confirmation. However, the State has qualified officers to fill up the quota. While some States are represented with two to three candidates in the same ambassadorial list where Bayelsa State has none,” it added
