APC Youth Network Holds Peace Walk in Cape Town, Announces Plan to Sponsor 1,000 Nigerian Youths to Vote

The APC Youth Network West Africa has held a peace walk in Cape Town, South Africa, to express support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promote non-violence and youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The walk, which took place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, began at the Mandela Glasses sculpture on the Sea Point Promenade and proceeded along the beachfront.

Despite cold, windy weather and light rainfall, participants turned out for the event, organised by the APC Youth Network West Africa and sponsored by its Director General, Hon. Olatunde Gideon Igbasan. Tabiti Adeyemi Samuel coordinated the activities in South Africa.

Speaking after the event, Igbasan expressed satisfaction with the turnout and commended participants for braving the unfavourable weather conditions to take part in the exercise.

He urged Nigerian youths to reject violence and embrace peaceful political engagement, constructive dialogue and democratic processes.

According to him, young people have an important role to play in shaping Nigeria’s political future and should participate responsibly in the country’s democratic development.

Igbasan also expressed support for President Tinubu, stating that the administration had introduced initiatives that, in his view, deserved the opportunity to continue.

He encouraged Nigerians living in South Africa to remain connected to developments in their home country and take an active interest in the forthcoming presidential election.

The Director General further urged eligible voters in the diaspora to engage their families and communities in discussions about the election and encourage informed participation in the democratic process.

A major highlight of the event was Igbasan’s announcement of a plan to sponsor 1,000 Nigerian youths living in South Africa to travel to Nigeria to vote in the forthcoming presidential election.

He said the proposed initiative was intended to assist eligible Nigerian voters who wish to return home to exercise their voting rights.

Details of the proposed sponsorship, including eligibility requirements, travel arrangements and implementation timelines, are expected to be announced by the network.

The organisers described the peace walk as part of their wider efforts to promote political participation, peaceful engagement and stronger connections between Nigerians in the diaspora and developments at home.

The network also commended Tabiti Adeyemi Samuel for coordinating the South African activities and facilitating the organisation of the Cape Town event.

The APC Youth Network West Africa said it remained committed to encouraging young people to participate in political activities through lawful and peaceful democratic channels.

The event concluded with renewed calls for non-violence, civic responsibility and greater youth involvement in Nigeria’s political process.
