Dtunes Rebrands as Swapto
Dtunes has rebranded as Swapto. The new name marks the company’s move from a cash-out tool to a platform that gives people more control over when they swap, move and use their money.
In a statement, it was noted that existing customers do not need to do anything. The Dtunes app updates to Swapto automatically; accounts, balances and transaction history carry over unchanged. Dtunes.ng now redirects to useswapto.com
The statement further explained that more Nigerians than ever earn and hold value in crypto and foreign currency, driven by remote work and the naira’s depreciation since 2021.
Nigeria ranked sixth in the 2025 Chainalysis Global Crypto Adoption Index, and Chainalysis estimates the country received more than $92.1 billion in on-chain value between July 2024 and June 2025, the largest figure in sub-Saharan Africa by a wide margin.
The shift is extending beyond crypto itself: market data from Yellow Card’s 2025 Africa report estimates that Nigeria had around 25.9 million digital-asset users in 2025,representing a 11.9 percent penetration rate.
Yet having money in one place does not always mean being able to use it the way you want.
Many people still convert before they are ready, rely on vendors who go quiet mid-transaction, take on P2P risk, or jump between several apps just to move money around.
Swapto starts from a simple idea: the user decides what happens to their money.
“Customers can hold their crypto and choose when to swap it to naira, with user assets held in custody by a digital asset custodian.”. Those who prefer automation can switch on AutoSell.
After swapping, they can pay for airtime, data and bills without leaving the platform. Underpinning all of it is the company’s reliability standard: Every Swap Just Works.
Founder and CEO of Swapto, Dotun Oyetade, said: “The way I see it, being in control of your money should be the default, not a feature. How you hold it, when you move it, what you swap it into, that is yours to decide. And we are building toward a Swapto that carries that control beyond crypto, so your money is spendable wherever you are.”
Dtunes launched in 2021 to do one thing well: turn crypto into naira. It has since completed over 500,000 swaps for users across Nigeria.
Over that time the company watched how customers actually used the product, the workarounds they built, and what they asked for next.
Continuing, he added: “Dtunes taught us that the way people move money is changing, and that we have to keep changing with them. “People weren’t only looking for a way to cash out. They wanted to decide when to move their money, how to use it, and where it goes next. The name Dtunes belonged to the beginning of that story. Swapto gives us room to build for where people are going, not just where they are today.”
Crypto remains the core of the platform today. The company’s ambition is to apply the same control-first principle to money more broadly.
The CEO added: “We see Swapto becoming a place where people and businesses can move between currencies, manage their money and use it for the things they need, whether that is bills today or cards and everyday payments down the line, without jumping between platforms. Wherever your money is coming from or wherever it needs to go, you should have the freedom to decide what happens to it.
“One promise we can make is that we will keep listening. The best ideas we have had came from users telling us what was frustrating them. We are building Swapto with our users, not just for them.”
