PTDF Trains 32 Researchers on Modern Geophysical Exploration

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has trained 32 lecturers and postgraduate students from universities across the Southeast on modern geophysical exploration techniques as part of efforts to strengthen research and technical capacity in Nigeria’s petroleum and energy sector.

The participants were selected from federal, state and private universities across the region for a capacity development workshop organised by the PTDF Professorial Chair in Petroleum Geology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Speaking at the event yesterday, PTDF Executive Secretary, Prof. Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, said that the workshop, with the theme: ‘High Resolution Geophysical Exploration Techniques: Data Acquisition, Processing and Interpretation’, focused on equipping participants with skills required to apply modern technologies in understanding the subsurface and addressing practical exploration and development challenges.

Aliyu, who was represented by the agency’s Director/Manager, Research and Development, Favour Adaure-Prince, said the growing application of modern geophysical technologies in petroleum and energy exploration had made capacity development increasingly important.

“The PTDF remains committed to supporting universities to develop the knowledge and skills required to advance Nigeria’s energy industry,” he said while urging the lecturers and postgraduate students to maximise the opportunity by learning, sharing ideas, and building professional connections.

The Chair Professor at the event, Prof. Olusola Ojo, said the 32 participants were drawn from universities across the South-east region.

He urged them to ensure that the knowledge acquired is translated into improved research, teaching and practical solutions to challenges confronting the industry.
