EPRON, E-Terra Sign MoU to Tackle Nigeria’s Growing E-Waste Challenge
Bennett Oghifo
The E-waste Producers Responsibility Organization Nigeria (EPRON) and E-Terra Technologies Ltd have entered into a collaborative agreement aimed at finding practical and sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s growing electronic waste (e-waste) challenge.
The agreement was officially signed on August 12, 2026, bringing together two organisations committed to promoting responsible management of electronic waste and protecting the environment.
The partnership is expected to strengthen efforts in the collection, recycling, refurbishment and responsible disposal of obsolete electronic equipment, while also encouraging greater public awareness of the environmental and economic consequences of improper e-waste disposal.
As the use of mobile phones, computers, household appliances and other electronic devices continues to increase, the volume of discarded electronics is also rising. When these materials are poorly handled, they can create serious environmental concerns and lead to the loss of valuable recyclable resources.
Mrs. Ibukun Faluyi, Executive Director, EPRON, said the collaboration between EPRON and E-Terra is therefore intended to move beyond discussions and focus on practical action. It will encourage stronger cooperation among producers, recyclers, government institutions, businesses and members of the public in developing a more organised e-waste management system.
The partnership will also promote awareness of responsible disposal and the importance of ensuring that end-of-life electronic equipment gets to appropriate recycling and treatment facilities.
According to Dr. Ifeanyi Ochonogor, CEO, E-Terra Technologies Ltd, as part of E-Terra Technologies Ltd’s efforts to further engage and inform stakeholders about practical solutions to the e-waste challenge, the E-Terra Data Destruction Exposition 2026, scheduled for October 8, 2026, will provide another important platform for stakeholder engagement. The exposition will create an avenue to showcase E-Terra’s responsible efforts in data destruction, e-waste management and environmental protection, while encouraging businesses, institutions and other stakeholders to adopt safer and more responsible practices.
Both organisations expressed their commitment to using the partnership to support a cleaner environment, promote responsible producer practices and contribute to the development of a more sustainable circular economy in Nigeria.
The signing represents an important step in bringing key stakeholders together to confront one of the environmental challenges created by Nigeria’s rapidly growing digital and technology-driven economy.
