Five Artists to Explore Different Perspectives at Abuja Exhibition
Five Nigerian artists are set to present different interpretations of the world around them at a group exhibition titled Layers of Seeing, organised by Orisun Art Gallery, Abuja.
The exhibition, scheduled for Saturday, August 29, will feature works by Ibrahim Kareem, Anehita Aletor, Ololade Oletubo, Samson Yusuf and Deborah Ibeme.
The exhibition, according to the organisers, explores the different ways artists observe, interpret and translate their experiences into visual forms.
Rather than presenting a uniform artistic style, Layers of Seeing brings together five distinct practices, allowing viewers to encounter different approaches to colour, form, composition and expression.
Kareem’s works are characterised by a strong engagement with colour, form and movement, creating an immediate visual impact.
Yusuf’s approach is more contemplative, with works that encourage viewers to spend more time examining their details and considering the ideas behind them.
Ibeme’s practice similarly places emphasis on restraint and considered composition, allowing details and emotions to emerge gradually.
Aletor and Oletubo add further perspectives to the exhibition, expanding the conversation around how individual experiences can shape artistic expression.
The exhibition seeks to draw attention to the subjective nature of seeing, particularly how two people can encounter the same image or subject and arrive at different interpretations.
Through the five artists, the organisers hope to encourage audiences to look beyond their first impressions and engage more closely with the works.
The exhibition also reflects the role of art in slowing down everyday observation. Subjects that might ordinarily appear familiar can take on different meanings when examined through an artist’s perspective.
Layers of Seeing will hold from 10am to 6pm at Orisun Art Gallery, first floor, Tropic Galleria, by Grand Square, Muhammadu Buhari Way, Central Business District, Abuja.
The exhibition will feature works by Ibrahim Kareem, Anehita Aletor, Ololade Oletubo, Samson Yusuf and Deborah Ibeme.
