AshakaCem Limited, a subsidiary of HBM Nigeria Plc, has announced the distribution of fertilisers to farmers in its host communities, namely Ashaka and Maiganga in Gombe State.
This is part of HBM Nigeria’s broader commitment to sustainable agriculture and community development.
The initiative took place at the company’s cement plant in Ashaka and its coal mine in Maiganga under its 2026 Agricultural Ecology Programme (AEP).
The AEP, which was launched in 2018, is one of AshakaCem’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and strengthening farmers’ livelihoods in its host communities.
HBM Nigeria said that “beyond the annual distribution of fertiliser, the programme also provides farmers with high-yielding seeds and training in modern farming techniques, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.”
Commenting on the initiative, the Managing Director, Ashaka Cement Limited, Mr. Ibrahim Aminu, who was represented by the Plant Manager, AshakaCem Limited, Mr. Adamu Mohammed, noted that the programme reflected the company’s broader sustainability agenda, which prioritises partnerships with local communities to deliver long-term socio-economic impact.
Aminu said: “Through the Agricultural Ecology Programme, we are equipping farmers with the resources and knowledge they need to improve productivity, increase yields and strengthen food security.
“Our commitment extends beyond cement manufacturing to creating lasting social and economic value for our host communities, and we will continue to invest in initiatives that improve livelihoods and contribute to sustainable rural development.”
He encouraged them to apply the knowledge and farming techniques acquired through the training sessions to maximise the benefits of the agricultural inputs.
He reaffirmed AshakaCem’s commitment to sustaining the initiative as part of the company’s broader efforts to foster inclusive growth and strengthen its relationship with its host communities.
