The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) National Headquarters, Makoko,Lagos, has emerged the winner of the second edition of the Reverend S.B.J. Oshoffa International Juvenile Quiz.
The church walked away with the champion’s trophy and the coveted $2,000 prize.
Organised by True Word in Season, the evangelical arm of the Greater Tomorrow Group (GTG) in the Celestial Church of Christ, the grand finale of the competition, which was held at the CCC National Headquarters, Makoko, Lagos, featured 34 parishes after a screening process that narrowed down an initial pool of 75 interested parishes to 50; but 16 parishes failed to participate on the D-Day.
Meanwhile, contestants Jeremiah Babalola and Oluwaseun Hassan successfully scored 16 out of 21 points to secure the number one spot for CCC National Headquarters, Makoko, while Adedoyin Paul Oluwasemilogo and Okanlawon Elijah Dada from CCC Imole Ayo Parish 1, Ibadan, and Akinboboye Fortune and Ogunlade Rebecca from CCC Itedo Alafia Jesu Parish, Lagos, finished second and third with 15 and 13 points respectively.
In his opening address, the event convener and leader of True Word in Season, Brother Samuel Ademola Bolaji stated that the competition was directly inspired by the vision of the church’s late founder, Samuel Bilewu Joseph Oshoffa, and structured intentionally to deepen young members’ understanding of the doctrines and values of the church.
He said:“We want our children to know and understand the purpose for which this church was established. There are many transformative lessons in the history and teachings of the church that can shape their minds and help them appreciate the beauty of God’s work in the Celestial Church.”
According to Bolaji, the competition is structured in a way to prepare young people for the future of the church.
“One thing unique about this competition is that the questions are not the usual questions answered elsewhere. They are technical and designed to produce mature minds that can understand, interpret, and apply knowledge. We are preparing a generation ready for the future of the church,” Bolaji added
Also speaking, the Shepherd-in-Charge of the CCC National Headquarters, Makoko, Ven. Superior Evangelist Afis Kiki, described the competition as a great initiative, noting that a new generation is being prepared to continue Oshoffa’s legacy.
“Education remains the yardstick for continuity. If our children are not properly educated about the church, one wonders what will happen in the next hundred years. Through this competition, a new generation is being prepared to continue Oshoffa’s legacy,” he said.
In his remarks, the secretary of the quiz committee, Michael Josu, explained that the competition was not just about winning but about learning and growing in knowledge
According to Josu, in a bid to encourage all participants, the organisers would give prizes to all participants beyond the $2,000 prize and trophy for the winners.
The event also provided an ample opportunity for health checks coordinated by Brother Oluwaseyi Ogunnami.
