Igbeyinadun Primary School, Shomolu, has emerged winner of the third edition of the Dacurate Primary School Leadership Quiz, defeating 14 other schools in a keenly contested grand finale held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Iganmu, Lagos.
The competition, organised by Dacurate Insight Initiative with the backing of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, attracted over 300 students and 500 guests in what organisers described as the largest and most competitive edition since its inception.
The annual leadership quiz tests primary school pupils across 12 knowledge areas, including Nigerian history, African leadership, governance, women in history, technology, international bodies, and current affairs.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, organisers said the competition is designed to go beyond textbook memorisation by assessing how well children understand the world around them and prepare for future leadership.
The 2026 edition initially featured more than 30 schools during the preliminary rounds before being narrowed down to 15 finalists who competed in segments covering General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Critical Thinking. Lawyer and television host, Timi Agbaje, served as Quiz Master for the event.
Igbeyinadun Primary School emerged champions and received the grand prize valued at ₦300,000, including cash scholarships, technology gadgets and leadership training sessions.
Awoyaya Primary School, Victoria Island, came second and received prizes worth ₦200,000, while Spring Children’s School, Okota, secured third place with rewards valued at ₦100,000.
Chief Executive Officer of SKLD Integrated Services and Co-Founder of Harde Business School, Tayo Osiyemi, underscored the importance of creating enabling environments for children to thrive.
“At SKLD we have spent 25 years putting resources into classrooms across this country, and we have seen what happens when you give people access and challenge them to rise. Watching these children compete at this level, I am reminded that the raw material has never been the problem. The question has always been whether we build the right environments for it to flourish. Dacurate is one of those environments,” Osiyemi said.
Also speaking, Convener of the Dacurate Leadership Quiz, Mateen Korede Taomu, said the competition reflected the promise of Nigeria’s younger generation.
“What Dacurate stands for is simple: every child deserves to be seen, challenged, and celebrated. Today proved that Nigeria’s next generation is more than ready,” Taomu said.
The organisers said the 2026 edition was supported by MTN, Sosa Fruit Drink, SKLD Integrated Services and other partners committed to youth development and educational advancement.
Dacurate Insight Initiative, a social impact organisation, said it reaches more than 5,000 students annually across Lagos State through its flagship Primary School Leadership Quiz and Secondary School Leadership Debate, in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
