Lagos Judiciary Mourns Justice Oyefeso
The Lagos State Judiciary has been thrown into mourning following the passing of a serving Judge of the High Court of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Josephine Efunkumbi Oyefeso (nee Sho-Silva), who passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 65.
Justice Oyefeso, who until her death, was actively serving on the Bench of the Lagos State High Court, was widely regarded within judicial circles for her contributions to the administration of justice in the State.
Her death was announced by the Lagos State Judiciary and her family in two separate statements describing her as a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, whose life reflected service, kindness, and commitment to those around her.
In the official statement, the Judiciary described her demise as a painful loss, noting that Justice Oyefeso served with “exceptional dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment to the administration of justice”.
Throughout her career on the Bench, she was widely regarded for her diligence, fairness and deep sense of responsibility in adjudicating cases, contributing significantly to the development of the legal system in Lagos State.
The statement, issued on behalf of the Chief Judge, Judges, Magistrates and the entire staff of the judiciary, expressed profound grief over her passing and extended condolences to her family, colleagues and associates.
“Hon. Justice Oyefeso served the Judiciary with exceptional dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment to the administration of justice”, the statement read. Her death marks the end of a distinguished judicial career that spanned several years, during which she earned the respect of members of the Bar and Bench alike.
The Lagos State Judiciary prayed for the repose of her soul, saying, “May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace”.
