All-new Electric C-Class: Redefining the Segment
Bennett Oghifo
In the future, the predicted wind conditions along the route and the height of the vehicle will also be considered even more accurately.
The intelligent navigation system calculates when a charging stop is necessary and automatically plans it in such a way that the total travel time is optimized. In some circumstances, two short charging stops with a higher charging power can be quicker than one longer charging stop. In addition, the vehicle’s charging settings are automatically adjusted by Navigation with Electric Intelligence and optimized for fast charging along the route – including the preconditioning of the high-voltage battery so that it is at the optimum temperature for DC fast charging at the right time.
MBUX Surround Navigation and MBUX Augmented Reality Head-up Display
MBUX Surround Navigation also takes visual interaction to a new dimension. Supported by cameras and sensors, it displays a real‑time 3D representation of the vehicle and its surroundings on the driver display. Drivers benefit from enhanced situational awareness.
A new optional MBUX Augmented Reality Head‑Up Display is available on the C‑Class for the first time. It presents relevant information and route guidance for the driver in an 18-inch display area. The virtual color image appears in the field of view.
MB.DRIVE: Advanced driver and parking assistance systems7
The all-new electric C-Class is equipped standard with a water-cooled high-performance supercomputer with sufficient power reserves for future functions, and cameras and sensors for first-class driver assistance features. Artificial intelligence processes the sensor data in real time to assess the driving situation.
A variety of advanced driver assistance technologies including Digital Extra: Distance Assist DISTRONIC1 are equipped standard. Optional Digital Extra: MB.DRIVE ASSIST1 and Digital Extra: MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO1,5 offer even further advanced driver assistance features. The “CITY PRO” feature that enables a seamless point-to-point driving experience – even in heavy city traffic, will be available at a later date.
The Digital Extra: Reverse maneuvering function1 enables the vehicle to automatically reverse part of the route most recently driven, with system support available under certain conditions. While this feature is active, the image from the reversing camera and a graphic representation of the planned route are displayed on the central multimedia display. This is especially useful for customers during traffic situations where a maneuver to turn the vehicle around is not possible.
Comprehensive equipment and new safety technology for dynamic cornering
The all-new electric C‑Class has been developed from the ground up with state-of-the-art safety features, including crumple zones, a rigid passenger cell and restraint systems with seatbelts and up to 11 airbags. The front center airbag is fitted standard, in addition to knee airbags for both driver and front passenger.
PRE-SAFE®, included standard, can detect critical driving situations at an early stage, provide warning and initiate precautionary protective measures. The new PRE‑SAFE® curve function is also available. When Digital Extra: MBUX Navigation1 route guidance is active, this function can provide warning to the driver by tightening the seatbelt when the system detects the vehicle speed is significantly too fast for an upcoming curve on the route.
Brighter and more efficient: DIGITAL LIGHT with micro-LED technology
The optional new generation DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps feature innovative micro-LED technology and a powerful new processor. The system produces a larger high-resolution illumination field and is also up to 50 percent more efficient than the previous design. All software modules are integrated into MB.OS. The Ultra Wide high beam provides a very wide light distribution for improved visibility. The partial high beam function – available on the C-Class in the U.S. for the first time – improves detection of poorly lit road users without dazzling others.
