A New Standard in Abuja: Inside Kabba Door & Furniture’s Growing Vision
At a time when many doors in Nigeria were purely functional and often didn’t last long, Abdulkadir Kaba decided to do things differently. Starting from Abuja nearly a decade ago, he set out to change how people see doors — not just as entry points, but as lasting and well-designed parts of a home.
Today, as the founder of Kabba Door & Furniture, he is building a brand focused on durability, design, and real value across Nigeria and beyond.
In this interview, conducted following the opening of the company’s new three-floor showroom in Kado, Abuja, he shares the journey, the struggles, and the vision behind the business.
Tell us about Kabba Door & Furniture
Kabba Door & Furniture is a Nigeria-based doors and furniture company founded in Abuja in 2016. From the beginning, our goal has been simple — to create products that last, not just products that look good.
Over the years, we’ve grown by focusing on real customer needs across both residential and commercial projects. To support this, we maintain a strong inventory system with over 5,000 products in stock, allowing us to meet both urgent and large-scale demands.
For us, customers are not just buyers — they are long-term partners. If they trust us once, we want them to come back again.
Can you tell us about your journey into the business?
My journey started long before 2016. My father has been in the door business for over 28 years, so I grew up around the industry. That gave me a strong understanding of both the product and the market.
When I started exploring the Nigerian market — especially in Abuja — I noticed something clear. Even in expensive homes, many doors were simple, repetitive, and didn’t match the quality of the buildings.
I saw an opportunity to do something better — to bring doors that are both strong and well-designed. That idea became the foundation of Kabba Door & Furniture.
What were the early challenges you faced?
One of the biggest challenges was introducing something new to the Nigerian market. People were used to certain types of doors, and our designs were different.
At the beginning, it was very difficult to convince customers. Many didn’t trust something new. To enter the market, we had to take real risks. In many cases, we sold our doors at a loss just to prove our quality and gain trust.
Those were not easy times. There were moments we questioned if it would work. But we kept going.
Today, when I see customers coming back and choosing us again, it shows that the effort was worth it.
We also deliver to cities across Nigeria. In the early days, when we had a very small team, I personally travelled to different cities to supervise installations. It was stressful and demanding, but it helped us build trust and a strong reputation from the beginning.
How did you adapt your products to the market?
We focused on understanding the real conditions in Nigeria and building products for that reality.
Many doors in the market are not made to handle moisture, insects, and heavy daily use. We designed ours differently — to last longer under these conditions.
At the same time, we didn’t want to ignore design. So we created our own in-house styles that combine durability with a clean and modern look.
For us, it’s simple — a door should be strong, but it should also look good.
What makes Kabba Door & Furniture different from other brands?
The difference is simple — we focus on products that truly last.
Many doors may look good at first, but after some time, they lose quality. We don’t believe in that. If a product doesn’t last, it has no real value.
We also maintain a large stock and a wide variety of designs. This allows us to respond quickly to customer needs, whether it’s one house or a large project.
What is your philosophy when it comes to customers?
For us, business is built on trust. If a customer buys from you once and never returns, then something is wrong.
We focus on delivering what we promise and standing behind our products. Over time, this builds loyalty, and that is what keeps a business growing.
What is your vision for the future?
Our goal is to build a strong manufacturing base in Nigeria. We want to produce more locally and reduce dependence on imports.
We also plan to expand into other African markets step by step through partnerships.
We believe that products made in Nigeria can meet global standards — and we want to prove that.
What message do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?
Focus on solving real problems and think long-term.
There will be challenges, and things will not always go as planned. But if you stay consistent and build something that truly adds value, growth will come.
If your product doesn’t last, you don’t deserve the customer.
