The National Universities Commission (NUC) has authorised Amadeus University, Amizi, in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State to start offering Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy and Law programmes in the university.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Samuel Nzotta, who disclosed this during a press conference ahead of the university’s second matriculation ceremony scheduled today, explained that with the three new programmes Amadeus now offers a total of 22 courses in seven faculties. He explained that NUC’s authorisation marks the initial step towards full accreditation.

Prof. Nzotta said the recent NUC approval followed a rigorous assessment of the university’s human and material resources, adding that the university has already admitted its first set of MBBS students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Vice Chancellor also announced that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria conducted an advisory visit in October 2025 and gave Amadeus approval to commence Nursing Science programme.

He described the developments as major milestones in the university’s quest to becoming an international centre of learning and research.

According to him, the institution offered admission to 92 students but that only 82 have completed the admission processes and have commenced lectures.

He emphasised that the university was dedicated to maintaining standards that would accelerate research processes and outcomes, which would be institutionalised to attract funding.

Nzotta said Amadeus has established a General Studies and Entrepreneurship Development Centre on campus for training of students in various skills and vocations to make the students job creators and not job seekers on graduation.

He warned that the privately-owned university has no place for cultism and other vices, adding, “we are trying to ensure that doesn’t happen in the university.”

In her contribution, the university Librarian, Professor Ukachi Blessing stated that Amadeus University stands out for its peaceful environment, internet-enabled smart classrooms, and digital learning tools.
