Nigers’ 25 LGAs to Spend N177.8bn in 2026

All the 25 local government councils in Niger State are to spend over N177.8 bn for their capital and recurrent expenditures this financial year according to the bill passed by the state House of Assembly.
Of the amount ₦105,035bn was approved for recurrent expenditure, while ₦72.8bn is allocated for Capital Expenditure.
The House passed the bill after the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs headed by Alhaji Bello Bako submitted the report of the panel to the committee of the whole on Tuesday.
Alhaji Bello Bako told the House that the budget for the 25 Local Governments was prepared in compliance with the provisions of Section 104(1) of the Local Government Law, 2001 (as amended) adding that relevant stakeholders were consulted before the committee came to its findings.
He therefore said that each local government was expected to operate according to set guidelines.
Bako however noted the Committee observed serious manpower gaps in the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) due to deaths and retirements across the 25 LGAs and therefore suggested the urgent need for recruitment to fill the gaps before also recommending that adequate revenue provisions be made to cater for the employment of new officers.
The House also on Tuesday passed 3 private members bill including the one on retirement age for health workers, the Niger State Senior Secondary Education Board and Niger State Drugs and Hospital Consumables Management Agency (Re-Enactment) Law, 2025
The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, who presided over the days sitting commended the chairman and members of the committees for a job well done.
Mrs. Afiniki Dauda directed the clerk of the assembly to prepare clean copies of the bills for the governor’s assent.
