New AGESI Programme Aims to Equip Africa’s Leaders for Green Economy Transition

The Africa Green Economy and Sustainability Institute (AGESI) has said its new programmes are aimed at equipping Africa’s leaders for the green economy transition.

In a statement on Thursday, the institute disclosed in its 2026 Executive Training Catalogue, a suite of programmes designed to equip the continent’s top decision-makers with the strategic tools to lead what it terms the “defining economic and geopolitical opportunity” of the current generation.
The curriculum, detailed in a document published on the institute’s website, moves beyond traditional academic instruction to offer a “practice-driven” format for senior officials, including cabinet ministers, chief executives, and investment leaders.

Courses are structured around the concept of a ‘Leadership Pillar’, a senior expert responsible for ensuring the content remains grounded in real-world policy and market challenges.

“The global economy is being reshaped by a transition of historic proportions,” AGESI’s Programme Director, Prof. Folake Anjorin said in the catalogue’s opening message.

“For Africa, this is not merely an environmental challenge, but the defining economic and geopolitical opportunity of our generation.”
The 2026 schedule features 16 week-long modules, offered both in-person at AGESI’s Lagos campus and via a virtual platform.
According to its Chief of Patrons, Prof. Babatunde Alo, each programme was designed to meet the realities of African governance, finance, industry, and community development.

“It brings together global expertise and African experience to prepare leaders who can navigate complexity, negotiate from a position of strength, and deliver results that endure,” said Alo.

AGESI’s Executive Director, Dr. Eugene Itua, said the courses “are immersive, practice-oriented, and grounded in the challenges our leaders face every day, from climate finance and industrial policy to natural capital valuation, urban resilience, and inclusive governance.”
According to him, each module is designed to strengthen decision-making, sharpen strategic thinking, and build the confidence required to lead transformative change.

Topics range from foundational strategy to sector-specific applications, all geared toward translating vision into tangible policy and results. Key courses include: The Green Economy: A Strategic Imperative; Green Finance & Climate Budgeting: From Strategy to Execution; Sustainable Aviation & Green Transport: Policy for a Connected Continent; Blue Economy Strategy: Maritime Governance & Ocean Wealth; and High-Stakes Negotiation: Strategy & Deal-Making for National Development.

The institute emphasises a distinctly African perspective in its approach. “We do not import models; we co-create solutions that work for Africa’s unique context and aspirations,” said Eugene Itua, Executive Director of AGESI.

Delivery combines expert-led instruction with applied learning methods, including negotiation simulations, policy labs, and case studies. Participants who complete three courses are eligible for an AGESI Executive Certificate, with a 15% discount applied to advance registrations for this pathway. Group discounts of 10% are also available for teams of three or more from the same organisation.

As Africa faces mounting pressure to balance economic development with climate resilience, AGESI positions its 2026 programme as a crucial platform for building the leadership capacity required to navigate this complex transition.

The institute’s leadership frames the effort not merely as training, but as a critical investment in the continent’s ability to shape its own future in a rapidly reordering world.
