By Dr. Dokpesi Timothy Adidi

Veritas University, Abuja, is set to become a global hub of intellectual engagement and policy dialogue as it hosts an International Conference on “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa: People, Environment, and Institutions.” The highly anticipated conference, convened by the Veritas University distinguished Professor Ikechukwu Anthony Kanu, OSA, Provost of the School of Postgraduate Studies and Director of Research, will take place on 3rd February 2026 at the university campus.

The international conference hopes to bring together scholars, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners from more than 100 universities and establishments across the world. Expected participants include representatives from renowned institutions such as Harvard University, Massachusetts; the University of Oklahoma; Comillas Universidad Pontificia, Spain; Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca; Universitas Cardinalis Stephen Wyszynski, Poland; the University of Amsterdam; the University of Portsmouth; Albany State University; the Kukah Foundation; the Joy Akuwkwesi Chinegwu Foundation; Alternative Perspectives and Alternative Concerns, Canada; among many others.

At the heart of the conference is the recognition that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a bold and transformative global agenda. The SDGs call on universities, governments, the private sector, civil society, and individuals to work collaboratively in fostering inclusive growth, social justice, environmental sustainability, and the promotion of human dignity. For Africa in particular, the challenges and opportunities embedded in the SDGs demand context-sensitive, research-driven, and institutionally grounded responses.

As a university founded on the core values of truth, integrity, service, and excellence, Veritas University, through the commitment of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, remains firmly committed to advancing research, innovation, and policy engagement that contribute meaningfully to the realization of the SDGs. The 2026 conference underscores this commitment by creating a space where theory meets practice and where global perspectives engage local realities.

This conference provides a vital platform for critical reflection, evidence-based discussions, and the articulation of practical solutions to Africa’s development challenges. Over the course of the event, participants can expect robust scholarly exchanges, insightful keynote addresses, and productive panel sessions. These engagements are designed not only to deepen understanding of the SDGs but also to generate actionable recommendations for sustainable development at local, national, and global levels.

With its impressive international participation and timely focus, the Veritas University 2026 SDGs Conference promises to be a significant contribution to global development discourse and a testament to the university’s growing role as a center of excellence in research and policy-oriented scholarship.
