Ojulari Hails Power of Sports as NNPC Games End
Olawale Ajimotokan in Abuja
The Group Chief Executive Officer NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has acknowledged the power of sports as a tool to connect and bring people together.
He affirmed this over the weekend in his remarks at the closing ceremony of the 14th NNPC Sports Fiesta held in Abuja.
Ojulari also applauded the 450 athletes who completed in 13 sports at the fiesta for representing NNPC core values of integrity, excellence and sustainability.
He described the performance of the contingent as a brilliant reminder that NNPC can win on the field and in the market place through old fashioned virtues of resilience, team work and excellence- the same qualities that will secure its place as a world-class energy company.
“As we celebrate the medal winners and our colleagues who competed with courage, commitment and good sportsmanship, I would also like us to celebrate strengthened relationships, broken silos and the bridges we built. That is the power of sports and the spirit of the fiesta.
“Let the unity you have built here strengthen our teamwork on a day-to-day basis across departments and across projects. Let the discipline you showed throughout these games elevate your performance and let the excellence you demonstrated become our daily standard,” Ojulari said.
The NNPC GCEO also charged the NNPC athletes to sustain the same spirit ahead of the 20th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIC) in February 2026, stressing he had no doubt that the athletes that emerged from the fiesta will carry forward NNPC’s winning legacy.
Earlier, the Chairman LOC, Sulaiman A. Sulaiman, described the 14th NNPC Sports Fieta as as a spectacular success that brought different business units of the national energy company together to compete and recreate.
Sulaiman said the LOC had also taken cognisance of the areas that required improvement in the last two editions and would ensure that the challenges were taken care off in the next edition.
He promised to use this fiesta to prepare the NNPC contingent for 2026 NOGIC scheduled for Abuja, saying they had in place the athletes to represent the company at the Games.
Team Integrity from Benin / Port Harcourt zone emerged the winner while Team Sustainability finished second. The third position went to Team Excellence with 12 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals.
