Ruth Isabella Peters Foundation Hosts ‘My Voice, My Space’ Poetry Workshop in Celebration of World Children’s Day
The Ruth Isabella Peters Foundation successfully hosted a creative poetry workshop, “My Voice, My Space,” in honour of International World Children’s Day on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Rooted in the global theme “My Day, My Rights,” the workshop welcomed students from Taqwa Schools for an enriching poetry and creative writing experience designed to build confidence, encourage self-expression, and deepen emotional awareness through the written word.
Held at Nahous, Lagos, Nigeria, the workshop was facilitated by Ruth Isabella Peters, founder of the Foundation, who created a warm and supportive environment where students could freely explore their thoughts, identities, and rights through poetry.
The event was graced by His Excellency Daniel Krull, Consul General of Germany to Nigeria, marking a meaningful moment that reflected the convener’s own German–Nigerian heritage.
As part of the activities, students selected a word from the Word Bank—a curated set of powerful and expressive terms and used it as the foundation for crafting their own poems. Each student not only wrote their poems but also proudly recited it to the group, fostering public speaking, confidence and peer appreciation.
A standout moment of the day was the installation of the Poetry Wall, which showcased all the students’ poems. The vibrant display served as a visual celebration of their voices, creativity, and ideas, reinforcing the message that every child’s word holds meaning, beauty, and power.
Speaking on the initiative, Ruth Isabella Peters said: “We believe every child deserves a space where their voice is valued. This workshop allowed them to express their thoughts freely and discover the strength and beauty in their words.”
The workshop reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to promoting literacy, emotional development, and creative expression among young people. Ensuring children have platforms to speak, be heard, and champion their rights.
