Udensi Visits Eze Igbo Ghana
…Donates 50million to support Igbos in diaspora
It was an evening steeped in brotherhood and cultural pride, the kind that reminds every Igbo son and daughter that no matter the distance, the call of heritage still echoes home.
On November 4, Chief Chikwe Udensi is a man whose name resonates with integrity, philanthropy, and public service paid a courtesy visit to Eze (Dr.) Chukwudi Ihenetu, the Eze Ndi Igbo na Ghana, at his residence. Although in Ghana on a private business engagement, Chief Udensi deemed it a duty to honour the revered monarch is a gesture that deeply touched the Igbo community in Ghana.
A distinguished businessman, security consultant, and humanitarian, Udensi is well known for his contributions to national security as a consultant to the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and for his benevolent initiatives through the Chikwe Udensi Foundation.
Over the years, he has built a reputation anchored on compassion, cultural pride, and community development. His visit to Eze Igbo Ghana once again reflected his lifelong belief that true greatness is measured by how much one gives back to humanity.
In his remarks, Udensi lauded the Igbo community in Ghana for their steadfast promotion of the Igbo language, culture, and traditions, despite being far from home.
He praised their peaceful coexistence with the host nation, describing it as a testament to the industrious, respectful, and community-oriented spirit of Ndigbo.
He further noted that the Igbos in Ghana have become a bridge of friendship between Nigeria and Ghana strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties through their exemplary conduct.
Addressing the need for cultural preservation, Udensi stressed that Igbos must remain intentional about transmitting their values and language to younger generations, even in inter-tribal marriages.
“No matter where we find ourselves,” he said, “we must keep the spirit of Igbo alive in our speech, our values, and our way of life. Intermarriage should unite us, not erase our roots.”
He also expressed gratitude to the government and people of Ghana for their continued hospitality toward Nigerians, especially the Igbo community.
Udensi commended Ghanaian traditional leaders for fostering tolerance and respect for cultural diversity, describing Ghana as a model of peaceful coexistence.
He extended appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his diplomatic approach to recent cross-national issues and to the Nigerian President for swiftly dispatching the Minister of Foreign Affairs to mediate and sustain cordial relations.
In a moving gesture that captured hearts, Chief Udensi donated ₦50 million to the Eze Igbo Ghana Welfare Trust Fund established to support Igbos in distress or need across Ghana.
He urged that the fund be managed transparently to uplift members of the community, emphasizing that “the true measure of a people lies in how they care for their own.” His benevolence not only inspired gratitude but also rekindled a sense of shared responsibility within the diaspora.
Following his visit, tributes and messages of appreciation have poured in from Igbos across Ghana, celebrating Chief Udensi’s generosity and his embodiment of the Igbo philosophy onye aghala nwanne ya “let no one leave his brother behind.”
His call for the establishment of similar welfare trusts in other countries resonated deeply, underscoring his message that unity remains the bedrock of progress.
Udensi’s visit was more than a courtesy call; it was a reaffirmation of identity, resilience, and solidarity. It reminded all that Igwe bu ike “our strength lies in unity” endures not only in Nigeria but wherever the Igbo spirit thrives.
