Lumberjack: The Streamer Turning Everyday Life into Performance
For many young Nigerians, the internet has become a stage for self-expression and reinvention. Among this new wave of digital creators, one voice has emerged with unusual candour and charisma. Known to his growing audience as Lumberjack, the Sagamu-born, Warri-raised streamer has found a way to turn ordinary moments into vibrant, unscripted entertainment.
Lumberjack spent most of his early life in Warri, a city known for its sharp humour and distinct street energy. The experience, he says, shaped his character in lasting ways. “Warri shaped everything about me,” he explains. “How I talk, how I see things, how I react. Growing up there teaches you to face life with no fear. Even with all the wahala, peace must come.” The confidence and toughness he gained there remain central to the personality his audience now sees online.
In 2024, he relocated to Lagos, a move that marked a turning point in his creative journey. Yet his introduction to content creation began earlier, in 2020, when he joined TikTok and began experimenting with short videos. “At first, I was just carrying a stick, talking about trending topics. I’d drag people playfully, talk about celebrities, mix it with street slang. People loved it,” he recalls. The clips brought visibility, but it was through live streaming that Lumberjack truly discovered his element.
Streaming allowed him to connect with his audience in real time. “At first, it was rough. I’d sit there mixing coconut and groundnut, eating bread and Coke, shouting, playing, connecting with people,” he says with a laugh. “But that’s where I found my rhythm.” His sessions are now known for their unpredictable blend of humour, music, conversation, and the kind of spontaneous drama that makes social media so immediate.
“Everything about me is entertainment,” he says. “Violence and peace. You’ll see drama, you’ll see jokes, you’ll see joy. I just bring vibes.”
Unlike many creators who meticulously plan content, Lumberjack’s approach is largely instinctive. He often begins by watching random clips online until inspiration strikes. “Sometimes I watch videos, and from there, something meaningful comes out. Something relatable, like something I’ve faced before,” he says. The result is content that feels raw and authentic, often blurring the line between performer and audience.
Still, the work comes with its share of challenges. “Pressure is the biggest,” he admits. “People always compare you. They say, ‘See your mate.’ That thing gets to you sometimes. Then there’s bad network, hate, all of that. But I keep going.”
Away from the screen, Lumberjack describes himself as calm, humorous, and genuine. “The way I am in real life is how I am online,” he says. “Funny, angry, calm, all at once. I’m just real.”
Looking ahead, he hopes to expand his reach beyond Nigeria. “Myself times ten,” he says with a smile. “Not just Lagos or Warri, but worldwide.” For now, he continues to build his audience, one live stream at a time, transforming ordinary moments into stories that resonate with thousands.
