A former governorship candidate in Kogi State, Olayinka Braimoh, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Braimoh, who contested the 2023 governorship election under the platform of the Action Alliance (AA), officially announced his defection recently at an event held in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking during the event, Braimoh said his decision to join the ADC was driven by his desire to contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Kogi State’s leadership landscape.

According to him, the ADC coalition provides a credible platform for like-minded individuals committed to the development and progress of the state.

“The opportunity for coalition and the need to have like minds work together to move the mountain of poverty and visionless leadership from our dear state motivated me to join ADC,” Braimoh said.

“Kogi State is far below expectation in terms of leadership performance, considering the potential, capacities and intellectual assets we possess. It’s been a case of the worst leading the rest of us while the best of us have not had the opportunity to lead.”

He urged residents of Kogi and Nigerians at large to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), noting that active political participation was key to bringing about meaningful change.

“The cries for a better Nigeria can only be achieved by Nigerians who are ready to take the bull by the horn—by voting and seeking elective positions,” he added.

The Kogi State Chairman of ADC, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, who received Braimoh into the party, described his defection as a timely and strategic move that would further strengthen the ADC in the state.

Ogga, said the ADC remains committed to presenting credible and God-fearing leaders in the forthcoming elections.

“Otunba Braimoh’s entry is a big plus to the ADC family. The coalition is here to stay, and we are determined to deliver results. Our party has the people’s sympathy at heart, and when Nigerians give us power, they will see what we can do for the good of all,” Ogga stated.

The event climaxed with the presentation of the ADC membership card to Braimoh, symbolising his formal induction into the party.
