Leading independent energy company, Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) has unveiled its bold initiative, the ‘SEEPCO Smiles’, a Global Sustainability Campaign aimed at making lasting social impact in Nigeria and on the lives of Nigerians through programmes relating to sport, culture, art, health, gender equality, and environment.

Well-crafted to reflect an excellent balance of business and humanity, the initiative, which is a tripartite between SEEPCO, the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria (NAEC) – a body of professional journalists specialised in reporting about developments in the energy sector, and the Lagos State Sport Commission (LSSC), is in alignment with the company’s commitment to sustainability and social transformation.

Speaking during the flagoff of the programme at the just-held NAEC Annual Conference 2025, in Lagos, last werk, the Head of Corporate Communications at SEEPCO, Mr. Aveek Biswas, said in alignment with its commitment to sustainability and social transformation, SEEPCO also endorses sports, culture and art, along with health, gender equality and environment as a vital tool for nation-building, youth empowerment, and the nurturing of Nigerian talent, which form an integral part of the company’s vision .

“Aligned to this core, we are happy to announce ‘A Global Sustainability Campaign’ by Sterling Oil, on this esteemed platform of NAEC, and request from all sections of the industry and all stakeholders for their support and participation, where we are committed to ‘Bringing Smiles with Each Barrel and breath of pen together”

“Without being loud, we’ll continue to bring our sustainability initiatives together and channelizing every effort into a purposeful movement with its defined mission, meaning, and to reach where we implement real-life transformational activities for a smile that sustain”, Biswas stated.

Sterling Oil is reputed to be a stand-out organisation that measures success not only by business growth but also by the positive impact it creates for the team members, people, communities, and environment.

The company’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond compliance; it is about responsibility, measurable progress, and shaping a sustainable future.

SEEPCO’s record of good stewardship is cemented on its over 20 years of journey marked by challenges across difficult terrains and tireless efforts backed by tremendous hard work and commitment.

“Unlike some international oil companies that wound up operations midway, SEEPCO today stands proudly as one of the fastest-growing oil exploration and production companies in Africa.

“Our vision is to grow continuously as a social enterprise proud of its “sustainable businesses that are socially relevant and responsible by contributing to its corporate role in nation development, respect for communities & creating value for all stakeholders”, Biswas remarked.

He said SEEPCO prioritises its sustainable development goals, noting that beyond numbers and operations, “the greatest impact is the lives we uplift and the future we create where no one is left behind.
The pinnacle is to bring a meaningful and lasting smile representing our belief of “Bringing Smiles with Each Barrel.” A campaign crafted envisioning millions of lasting smiles that sustain across the globe and beyond boundaries to be called SEEPCO SMILE.”

Quite remarkably, SEEPCO dedicated their campaign to Nigeria, joining other citizens in celebrating its 65 years of remarkable resilience, resolve and relentless rise.

However, some of the activities expected during the campaign include environmental awareness campaigns integrated into sporting events; facilitation of veteran talents of Nigeria for upliftment of sports; small but focused tournaments exclusive for women, senior citizens and journalists.

Specifically, NAEC will help in the areas of facilitating alignment with Sports Journalist Associations; promote the Journalist sports events like a table tenis tournament; and provide the media coverage of the activities.
