IDGC: Betty Dibiah Amplifies Voice for the Girl Child Through Branama Children’s TV
– On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, renowned media entrepreneur and broadcaster Betty Dibiah has reiterated her commitment to advancing the rights, dignity, and potential of young girls in Nigeria through her groundbreaking platform, Branama TV.
Branama TV, Nigeria’s premier children’s television channel on the Startimes network (Channel 135), is dedicated to producing high-quality, educational, and culturally resonant programming for children aged 0–13. At a time when child-focused content is increasingly scarce in mainstream media, the platform stands out for its original, indigenous storytelling and its focus on nurturing values, identity, and imagination among Nigerian children.
Speaking on the significance of this day, Betty Dibiah emphasized the transformative power of media in shaping the future of the girl child. “When girls see themselves reflected in stories, when they see possibilities in voices and images that look like theirs, they begin to believe those possibilities are also for them,” she said.
As part of this broader vision, Dibiah is advocating for increased access to inclusive media content that educates and empowers girls, encourages their participation in storytelling and production, and promotes safe digital inclusion for girls in underserved communities.
“We are Branama Children’s TV,” she stated. “We have also established the Branama Children’s Foundation as the vehicle to push these goals further.”
The foundation will serve as the developmental arm of the channel, championing initiatives that provide mentorship, skill-building, and leadership opportunities for girls through media and the creative arts.
Betty Dibiah is calling on media stakeholders, educators, civil society organizations, and government institutions to unite in addressing the gaps that hinder the representation and empowerment of girls—particularly in media, education, and technology sectors.
As Branama TV looks to expand its national reach, the channel remains committed to deepening its local content offering and building strategic partnerships that will allow more Nigerian girls to engage, create, and lead in their communities.
