I Sold My Family Land to Promote My Song— Singer Tony Frank
In the pursuit of great dreams, sacrifices often become the currency of progress. For some, it’s sleepless nights or missed opportunities. For Nigerian singer Tony Frank, it was selling his family land and staking his only car , all for to pursue his passion for music .
Known for soulful songs like Call My Baby, Fall, and No Stress, Frank is carving his path in the industry with a mix of determination, resilience, and passion. But behind the melodies and applause lies a journey marked by difficult choices.
“The most surprising thing fame has taught me about people is how differently they treat you once you’re in the spotlight. Some show love genuinely, while others are drawn to the image of success rather than the person behind it. It’s been eye-opening on both sides,” he shared.
The line in the sand for Frank? Selling the family land just to fund the promotion for his song with Timaya. That was his ultimate sacrifice.
“I believe every great achievement comes with some level of sacrifice, and I’m willing to give that to build something lasting. I once sold my family land to promote my song with Timaya. Even put our car I was using for bolt rides on collateral
The sacrifice is worth it. Although, I’m not where I want to be but I’m not where I use to be”, he recounted.
Promoting music in Nigeria, he admits, comes with steep financial challenges. “It’s very expensive, especially for independent artists. Instead of outspending big labels, I focus on creativity and consistency. Social media has become a huge tool for me. I create content that connects with people and build good relationships with DJs, influencers, and media houses. Even though these relationships often require spending money, with good rapport you won’t have to overspend.”
If given the power to change the system, Tony Frank says he would make music promotion more accessible.
“Right now, the highest bidder often gets all the spotlight, even if the song has no lasting value. I’d love to see platforms that push good music based on quality, not just who can pay the most. Nigeria has so much raw talent, but many voices are being silenced simply because they can’t afford the promotion.”
For Frank, every gut-wrenching sacrifice is just proof that real art is worth the price tag. He’s betting it all, and with every risk, he’s one step closer to making that soulful sound an absolute global takeover.
