The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has approved the appointment of Mr. Emmanuel Odo as the Acting Clerk of the Senate, citing his exceptional administrative competence and years of dedicated service as reasons for the appointment.

The announcement, according to a statement yesterday by the Deputy Director, NASC Information/Spokesperson, Emmanuel Anyigor, was made following the 10th meeting of the 6th Commission.

The appointment followed the retirement of the substantive Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Rawlins Agada, who had successfully completed the required constitutional period in the federal civil service.

In a letter personally signed by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, NASC said Odo’s appointment takes effect immediately, in accordance with Section 6(b) of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014.

Part of the letter as quoted in the statement read: “I write to inform you that the 6th Commission at its 10th Meeting held on Tuesday, 16th September, 2025, approved your appointment as Acting Clerk, Senate in the National Assembly w.e.f. from 16/09/2025.”

The Chairman added that the decision was made in recognition of Odo’s consistent hard work, administrative capability, and deep institutional knowledge of the National Assembly bureaucracy.

“The Commission urges you to justify the confidence reposed in you by continuing to uphold the values and integrity of the Senate bureaucracy,” the letter further stated.

Before his elevation, Odo served as Deputy Clerk, Senate (Administration), where he played a key role in the coordination and management of legislative support services.

His appointment is expected to ensure continuity and stability in the administrative processes of the upper legislative chamber as the National Assembly continues its work in the 10th Assembly.

The statement added: “Odo is widely regarded within legislative circles as a diligent and experienced bureaucrat, with a career spanning over two decades in various capacities within the National Assembly. The appointment signals the Commission’s continued commitment to rewarding merit and professionalism within the legislative service.”
