Agritourism is the new driver of jobs, wealth creation in Nigeria — Moji Davids

The Managing Director of Xtralarge Farms and Group of Companies, Dr. Mrs. Moji Davids, has disclosed that agritourism has the potential to generate ₦3.2 trillion annually for Nigeria, while creating millions of jobs across farming, hospitality, and entertainment sectors.

Speaking to newsmen during a press conference ahead of the 2025 World Tourism Day, Dr. Davids said agritourism is transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape into a global attraction by merging farming, culture, and leisure.

According to her, “Our goal is to host one million tourists annually at our resort, generating about ₦3.2 trillion in revenue. This will create opportunities in accommodation, transportation, housekeeping, entertainment, and food services.”

She noted that unlike traditional farming associated with hardship, agritourism presents agriculture as an avenue for prosperity. “When visitors come to our resort, they see international standards, cinemas, spas, playgrounds, and natural food from the farm. By the time they leave, 60–70% want to invest in farming,” she said.

Davids explained that Xtralarge Farms, which has been in agriculture for 17 years, diversified into agritourism two years ago by establishing a resort on its palm estate. The facility integrates palm oil processing, cattle rearing, and cassava plantations while offering tourism and hospitality services.

She added that the model has spurred development in host communities, increasing property values and creating wealth. “Every aspect of agritourism, farming, hospitality, entertainment, accommodation, creates jobs, empowers communities, and heals the nation’s economy,” she stressed.

Highlighting preparations for World Tourism Day on September 27, she said the company has launched a 30-day celebration featuring virtual agritourism festivals every Sunday. The grand finale, tagged “Agritourism Carnival,” will be hosted in partnership with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eko Tourism Foundation, and Ogun State Ministry of Tourism.

The carnival, according to her, will showcase Nigerian agriculture, arts, culture, and cuisine, with live farming experiences, pottery, and culinary exhibitions.

Beyond Nigeria, Davids said the company is exporting agritourism festivals abroad, with upcoming editions in the UK, Canada, Switzerland, and the Bahamas.

“Agritourism is putting Nigeria on the global map, and we are proud to champion it,” she said.
