Nigerian Educator Encourages Artificial Intelligence Integration into Classroom

The Founder of TraindTrainer and an AI Director, Onyekachi Onwudike-Jumbo, has advised Nigerian teachers to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the classroom.
The event was tagged, “Embracing Agentic AI: Your Partner in Teaching and Education Innovation”.
Speaking recently during a one-day teachers’ training workshop organised by TraindTrainer in Lagos, Onwudike-Jumbo urged educators to shift from the old pattern of imparting knowledge, noting that different students have different learning skills that appeal to them.
She said, “We can’t prepare children for a future that no longer exists. Things have changed, and the preparation starts with our teachers and school owners. We must use 21st-century skills to train 21st-century learners.
“We can’t keep using 2019 teaching methods to prepare kids for 2030 jobs. The future of work is evolving, and education must evolve with it.”
She stated that most Nigerian teachers’ understanding of AI was limited to surface-level use, pointing out the need to reskill the teachers and ensure they are not left behind in the global education race.
She said, “AI will not replace teachers, but it’s a fact that it will replace teachers who don’t know how to use it.”
At the workshop, educators were trained on how to use AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard, Gemini, and WhatsApp bots not only to create lesson plans but to personalise them, check for bias, and adjust based on student learning styles.
The teachers were shown how to teach complex tech concepts like algorithms, data classification, and binary logic, using bottle caps, sticks, grains, seeds, and even broom fibres.
Recognising possible lapses in AI, the convener maintained that it isn’t perfect, “but when used well, it can make you more effective and save time.”
A participant at the event, Moses Mukoro described the workshop as “excellent”, adding that his expectations were met.
“If you’re not informed, you’re deformed. So we are here as teachers to gather knowledge so we can impart the students. I’m glad I came here,” the educator declared.
