Chinwendu Abia Bags President’s NYSC Honours Award for Transformative Service in Jigawa State

Chinwendu Abia, a graduate of Foreign Languages and Literature from the University of Port Harcourt, has been conferred with the President’s NYSC Honours Award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and transformative service during her 2023 service year in Jigawa State.

Deployed with the 2023 Batch A corps members, Abia quickly distinguished herself as Assistant Platoon Leader during orientation camp, where she led her team to first place in a motivational writing contest and supervised sanitation activities.

While serving at the Ministry of Information, Youth, Sports & Culture, Dutse, she applied her digital marketing skills to improve the ministry’s platforms and represented corps members with a lecture on “Green Skills for Youths” during the 2023 International Youth Day celebrations.

Her Personal Community Development Service (CDS) project, commissioned in Zai community, delivered life-changing support including; Renovation and furnishing of a block of two classrooms, donation of 1,000 learning materials, 300 school uniforms, 25 school bags, and 25 pairs of sandals, provision of food relief to 50 widows and low income families, menstrual hygiene sensitization and free sanitary pads for secondary school girls.

In appreciation, the Zai community named the renovated classroom block and the community entrance in her honor.

Chinwendu is also the founder of Whole By Grace, a non-profit initiative established in 2021, which has executed girl-child empowerment outreaches in Rivers, Bayelsa, Jigawa, and Lagos States.

Reacting to the award, Chinwendu expressed deep gratitude

“I dedicate this award to Almighty God for considering me a vessel worthy of use and to every single person who has partnered with me on numerous charity projects, especially Deciders Hub, for believing in my ability to execute project faithfully,” Chinwendu said.

The President’s NYSC Honours Award remains the nation’s highest recognition for corps members whose projects deliver measurable impact and foster sustainable community development.

With her name now etched in the annals of NYSC excellence, Chinwendu Abia stands as a shining example of how service, passion, and vision can reshape communities and inspire the next generation.
