Upholding Democratic Values and Supporting a Peaceful Continuity in Ekiti
By Babafemi Ojudu
As members of our party converge in Ado Ekiti today from all 16 local government areas to endorse the governor for a second term in next year’s election, I wholeheartedly align myself with this collective aspiration. I believe he has earned the trust and confidence of the people and deserves the opportunity to continue his work.
While I am unable to join today’s gathering—just as I proudly did a few months ago during the Central Senatorial District’s endorsement—due to pressing engagements outside the state, my support remains unwavering.
As a journalist-turned-politician and more importantly, a committed community advocate, I can confidently state that the current governor has so far proven to be one of the most effective administrators in the history of our state. He has delivered modest but meaningful achievements across various sectors, within the constraints of available resources.
What stands out most to me, however, is his commitment to peace and civility. Since taking office, Ekiti has enjoyed an unprecedented atmosphere of political calm. There have been no reports of political assassinations, targeted violence, or harassment of opponents, whether within or outside our party. This peace has been the fertile soil in which development has taken root.
In this regard, I commend the governor not only for his achievements but for fostering a culture of tolerance and inclusivity. It is essential that this peaceful disposition be maintained, especially as we approach the election season.
Democracy thrives when all voices can be heard. I urge the governor and all stakeholders to continue to respect the right of opposition figures to campaign freely and without intimidation. Let every aspirant present their vision to the people. Let the people decide at the ballot box—freely and fairly.
From my vantage point, I believe the governor’s performance and goodwill will earn him another term. He deserves the chance to consolidate on the solid foundations he has laid.
Let us keep the peace, strengthen our democracy, and move Ekiti forward.
