Fashion Law Institute to Host Pioneering Fashion-Tech Event Ahead of FLBC2025

The Fashion Law Institute Africa is set to host a high-impact virtual event titled “Privacy by Design: Fashion x Tech” on Saturday, July 26, 2025, as part of its build-up activities ahead of the Fashion Law & Business Conference (FLBC2025).

The event will spotlight pressing issues at the intersection of fashion, technology, and legal innovation, with a core focus on privacy, cybersecurity, and tech adoption within Africa’s evolving fashion finance landscape. Bringing together legal, policy, and technology experts, the session will explore how stakeholders across the fashion value chain can implement responsible, secure, and inclusive digital solutions that support long-term growth.

One of the key attractions will be a judging panel and showcase featuring early-stage startups creating tech-enabled tools for the fashion industry. These innovations are expected to prioritize data ethics, privacy-first frameworks, and cybersecurity, with a strong emphasis on designing solutions that reflect Africa’s unique context and challenges.

“This event speaks to the future of fashion in Africa,” said Bernice Asein, founder of the Fashion Law Institute. “As fashion merges with fintech, artificial intelligence, and digital commerce, data protection, ethical innovation, and policy will shape the sustainability of this growth. We are excited to lead these conversations.”

Participants will also benefit from a masterclass session led by internationally recognized privacy expert Dapo Agboola, who will share best practices at the intersection of fashion, data protection, and emerging technologies. Joining him is Olanrewaju Akisanya, Chief Technology Officer at Miva University (formerly uLesson), who will offer technical perspectives on building resilient infrastructures for Africa’s fashion-tech future.

The “Privacy by Design” event is part of a wider programme leading up to the Fashion Law & Business Conference 2025, which is themed “Financing Africa’s Fashion Industry.” The main conference is expected to attract founders, investors, policymakers, legal professionals, academics, and industry leaders from across Africa and the diaspora.

Organisers say the upcoming session will provide stakeholders with cutting-edge knowledge and actionable insights to help shape a more secure, innovation-driven, and human-focused digital ecosystem for fashion in Africa.

Fashion Law Institute Africa remains the continent’s leading platform for legal innovation, policy development, and education in the fashion and creative sectors. Through its commitment to research, advocacy, and training, the Institute continues to support the emergence of sustainable, rights-based fashion ecosystems across Africa.
