Kenneth-Odum Makes History as Africa’s First Certified Floral Designer by AIFD
In a groundbreaking moment for the African design industry, Dr. Promise Ovai Kenneth-Odum, visionary founder of Rukkies Decor and Rukkies House Group, has officially become the first Nigerian and African to earn the prestigious Certified Floral Designer (CFD) designation by the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD)—a global benchmark for excellence in floral artistry.
This internationally recognized certification, known for its rigor and exclusivity, is awarded only to floral designers who meet the highest standards of design skill, creativity, and industry knowledge.
Dr. Promise’s journey to achieving this milestone has been one marked by discipline, sacrifice, and intentional growth.
From self-taught artistry to training under top floral designers globally, she has not only honed her craft but elevated the perception of floral design across Africa.
“This isn’t just a personal win—it’s a continental victory,” Dr. Promise said. “It proves that African floral designers can compete and stand tall on the world stage.”
The CFD certification process includes a combination of advanced design coursework, professional floral evaluations, written examinations, and a practical hands-on design test, administered by seasoned AIFD evaluators.
With determination, Dr. Promise underwent extensive training in Shanghai, China, sitting for the exam in May 2025, and was awarded the certification shortly after.
With this recognition, Dr. Promise is not just raising the bar for herself she’s building a bridge for others.
Through her design academy, RAFAD Rukkies Academy for Floral Artistry and Design, she is already laying the foundation to support and mentor the next generation of African floral designers.
Her vision is to demystify the pathway to global certifications, open up international opportunities, and put African florists and designers on the global map.
“I opened this door. Now my mission is to keep it wide open for others. Through RAFAD, we’ll nurture excellence, global relevance, and structure in African floral design.”
Dr. Promise is currently working on expanding RAFAD’s curriculum to align with international floral standards, and plans to partner with global institutions to introduce certification programs across the continent.
As the creative mind behind Rukkies Decor, Africa’s leading floral production and design company, and the force behind multiple design-driven ventures, Dr. Promise Ovai Kenneth-Odum continues to lead with intention, innovation, and inspiration.
