Dreams Cottage Estate celebrates one year, uplifts Abuja’s sickle cell warriors, combats victimisation

For many living with sickle cell disease, the pain goes beyond physical crises. Stigma, misunderstanding, and silence often surround their reality, leading to deep feelings of isolation. On its first anniversary, Dreams Cottage Estate Ltd. chose to change that narrative not with speeches or billboards, but by showing up, listening, and giving.

Obi Joseph Obumneme, founder and CEO of Dreams Cottage Estate Ltd., made the company’s commitment clear: “Our anniversary is a celebration of community and resilience. By celebrating with these warriors, we are standing against the victimization they face. We want to show them that they are valued, seen, and supported—not just on special occasions, but every day.”

On June 3rd, the company hosted about 100 sickle cell warriors and their families at Suite A004, Quad Plaza, Wuye. The space wasn’t filled with formalities. It was alive with warmth, shared stories, laughter, and quiet strength. Guests received thoughtfully prepared emergency kits, including heating pads, socks, and flasks, simple but meaningful items that help manage sickle cell crises at home.

But beyond the kits, the most powerful gift was recognition.

By choosing to highlight these survivors, not as victims but as resilient members of the community, Dreams Cottage Estate Ltd. took a public stand against the kind of quiet neglect many of them face. The company stepped beyond its role as a property developer and into the deeper work of building dignity.

Attendees spoke openly about how rarely they are included in community events, how often they are pitied or ignored. For them, this gathering was different. It was a space where their strength was acknowledged, their struggles were heard, and their humanity was honored.

In a city like Abuja, where development often moves fast and leaves many behind, this kind of celebration reminds us what real progress looks like. It’s not just about new buildings, it’s about who gets to belong inside them.
