Taeps Animation Studios Champions African Values in Schools with The Spirit of Dambe

Lagos, Nigeria – June 6, 2025 – In a bold and inspiring move to revive cultural heritage and connect with the next generation, Taeps Animation Studios is taking its latest animated short film, The Spirit of Dambe, on a multi-school tour across Lagos, including stops at Corona Schools, MorretVille, and the Kids FM Fest, with more schools lined up in the coming weeks.
Taeps, known for its dedication to telling authentic African stories, is using this initiative not only to entertain but to educate, mentor, and instil African values in young minds. Through The Spirit of Dambe, the studio brings to life the Hausa martial art of Dambe, a traditional combat sport deeply rooted in history, resilience, and honour.
Set in a stylised African environment, the animation follows Farouk, a 19-year-old orphan who enters a local fighting tournament to save his ailing grandmother and honour the legacy of his late father. The story embodies themes of sacrifice, legacy, and grit, offering a powerful modern homage to African culture.
“We’re not just creating animation; we’re preserving cultural identity,” says Adeoyin Okuboyejo, Founder and CEO of Taeps Animation Studios.
“At Taeps, we’re deeply intentional about sharing our stories, ones that are rich in values, culturally grounded, and emotionally relevant. Our goal is to raise a generation of young Africans who understand the power of their roots and are proud to tell their own stories,” he further stated.
During each school screening, students participate in interactive mentorship sessions led by Okuboyejo himself, where they are encouraged to reflect on their journey, build resilience, and pursue lives driven by legacy. The initiative is part of Taeps’ broader mission to fuse entertainment, education, and cultural storytelling through world-class animation.
Taeps’ impact continues to grow. Their previous project, Ewa, an award-nominated short film, has amassed over 400,000 views on YouTube, drawing international attention to the studio’s distinctive storytelling. Now, with its upcoming epic 3D fantasy film, Adétóún and the Heart of Time, currently in development, Taeps is diving even deeper into African storytelling, exploring themes of ancestry, bravery, and destiny.
As Taeps builds a robust catalogue of culturally resonant content, it is quickly emerging as a flagbearer for African animation on the global stage. By telling African stories with heart, purpose, and artistic brilliance, Taeps is breaking boundaries and building bridges. The studio is carving a new path for African storytelling on the global stage that transcends borders and inspires generations.
